Shijima

静まり返って物音ひとつしない様子を表す「静寂(しじま)」は、曇りのない鏡や静止している水のように、邪念がなく、澄み切って落ち着いた心を形容する「明鏡止水」を表現した高台盛器です。揺らぎのない平滑面と自然物を想起させる柔らな線から生まれる静けさのなかの緊張感ある佇まいが禅の世界に誘います。

“Shijima” is a high-footed plate, named from its meaning: the stillness and the absence of any sound. It expresses “meikyo jisui,” which describes a clear and calm mind, free from evil thoughts, like a cloudless mirror or still water.
